Hearthstone Kobolds & Catacombs: 5 Things You Need To Know

Hearthstone just got a new expansion pack. Kobolds and Catacombs revolve around the adventures players might have during a Dungeon Run. If you’re not fully prepared for this new adventure, don’t worry because here are five things you need to know about Hearthstone: Kobolds & Catacombs.

1.New Cards
With a new expansion come new cards. Nothing new here. Kobolds & Catacombs adds 135 new cards to the game. The last couple of weeks there were special streams and reveals to announce all of these cards. This results in days of theorycrafting and the creation of new tactics. Some of the cards have the potential of changing the meta.

2. New Mechanic
That’s where the new mechanic of the expansion comes in. Technically there will be two new mechanics added to the game. The first one is legendary weapons for every class and the second is a new keyword. I’ll discuss the new keyword later on. With Kobolds & Catacombs Blizzards adds nine new weapons to the game. One for every class. Some classes are weapon users by nature. A Warrior or Hunter without a weapon is pretty odd. But Priest and Druid never got their hands on a weapon. The nine new cards all have unique abilities that will push forward a certain archetype decks. Hunter will revolve around a deck without any minions, while Priest get’s a weapon that will boost Dragon Priest.

3. Keyword: Recruit
There already are a lot of keywords in Hearthstone. The most common ones are Battlecry, Deathrattle and Stealth. With the next expansion, we get cards that will summon minions from your deck. It’s called recruit and might be a very interesting way to get a lot of board presence. New decks will be created to benefit from the Recruit keyword.

4. Dungeon Runs
Kobolds & Catacombs will add a new single-player mode. Blizzard changed the single player experience by making them free to play. So we don’t have to pay around 15 euro or dollar to play the adventure. In Dungeon Run players get a deck consisting of ten cards. After every win you get two treasures. Both treasures will stay with you for the remainder of the run. One treasure will buff your deck by adding special effects. One of the cards will give all of your minions +1/+1 at the start of the game. The other treasure is a collection of three sets of three cards. You’ll get to choose one of these sets to add to your deck. This results in a stronger deck that will be able to tackle harder bosses. There are 48 bosses in total and one run will consist of eight bosses. Be sure to play this mode when the expansion launches since it will give you free Kobolds & Catacombs card packs.

5. Based on Dungeons & Dragons
Hearthstone is a card game that revolves around heroes, minions en items out of World of Warcraft. With this expansion, the creators of the game were heavily influenced by Dungeons & Dragons. Not only the idea behind the Dungeons Runs but also a lot of the flavour text will be recognised by D&D players. Plated Beetle is the perfect example of the flavour text.
